Metric Imperial

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup (Dark)
  • 3 sprigs of thyme

Method

  1. Wash the oranges well and slice them into rounds approximately 1 cm (3/8 in) thick.
  2. Arrange the orange slices in a shallow, flat-bottomed pan, add the medium or Amber maple syrup, and simmer on low heat for approximately 20 minutes.
  3. Remove the orange slices from the pan and reduce the remaining liquid until it thickens. Pour this over the orange slices.

The maple syrup slightly tames the tartness of the oranges. Also, by using Amber or Dark syrup, which has a stronger flavor than light syrup, it becomes a richly flavored dessert for adults. Take this chance to really be generous with the syrup.  Let it fill the dish.

More about Maple

Maple syrup comes in four classifications, according to colour and taste.

At the start of sugaring season, syrup is generally clear, with a lightly sweet taste. It becomes darker and caramelized as the season goes on.

An unopened can of maple syrup keeps for many years.

Once the can is opened, syrup should be kept in an airtight container in a cool place.

100% pure maple butter contains no butter or dairy.

Like all 100% pure maple products, maple butter comes from the sap of the maple tree… and that’s all.
