Recipe — Apple and Almond Gratin With Maple Sugar Flakes

Ingredients

  • 8 your choice of baking apples
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup 35% cream
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (Amber)
  • 3 tablespoons ground almonds
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup Equinox maple sugar flakes with cranberries

Method

  1. Peel apples, core and quarter.
  2. In a frying pan, melt butter, and gently fry apples for about 3 minutes until golden in colour.
  3. Add cream and maple syrup and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Place apples in four small gratin dishes or one large one.
  5. Mix almonds with oats and maple sugar flakes; sprinkle over apples and bake at 190 °C (375 °F) for 4, then broil for 1 minute to gently brown the top.
